Responding to signs/allegations of abuse

Remember: be calm.

Be honest, do not make promises you can’t keep.

Keep questions to a minimum.

Make notes so you can complete Child Protection Incident Record Form (CPIRF).

Inform the person in charge and/or the Club CWO. Complete the CPIRF, Club CWO to report the incident to the Leicestershire CW Manager (01455 442637) and RFU (0208 831 6655). If CWO, not available, person discovering/being informed of abuse to….

Contact Social Services/ the Police/ the NSPCC (0808 800 5000)

Does the allegation involve a parent, family member or carer?

NO – Inform the parents with the agreement of Social Services and the Police

YES – Do not inform parents without discussing with Social Services or Police first

Complete CPIRF and forward to the Club/Regional/RFU CWO.

Help authorities investigate.

Inform doctor of concerns – doctor will take further action

Call an ambulance / Police

Inform the person in charge and the Club Child Welfare Officer (CWO)

Is immediate treatment necessary?

A child shows signs of abuse or an incident is reported to a member of staff about abuse (DISCLOSURE).
